Microsoft Dynamics CRM 5 Installation

Only the 64-bit version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM “5” is available to download. Therefore a typical laptop configuration is incapable of running a suitable demo environment, without running Windows Server 2008 as your host operating system.

However, Sun VirtualBox (open source virtualization software) supports both 32-bit and 64-bit ‘guest’ virtual machines, on a standard 32-bit laptop / PC. You can download the software here:

Steps for installing Microsoft Dynamics CRM 5 on a 32-bit host (Vista) running a 64-bit guest (Windows Server 2008)

Windows Server 2008 R2 Installation

- Create new Virtual Machine in VirtualBox

Windows Server 2008 R2 Configuration

- Install Active Directory Domain Services role

- Configure Active Director Domain Services

- Install Application Server and Web Server (IIS) roles

- Activate Windows

SQL Server 2008 Installation

- Install SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition

- Install SQL Server 2008 SP1
